Award in Food Safety in Catering – Level 2

This qualification is designed for those who are or intend to be food handlers working in catering.  A food handler is any person who handles food whether open or packaged (including drinks and ice).  The qualification may also be appropriate for people whose work requires them to enter food premises eg. Equipment maintenance engineers, off-site owners/managers, delivery personnel.

The holders of this qualification will have a good knowledge and understanding of the importance of food hygiene, associated food hazards, good hygiene practice and controls based upon an awareness of food safety management systems  counters.

Course content

The course consists of 4 sections:

  1. Understand how individuals can take personal responsibility for food safety.
  2. Understand the importance of keeping him/herself clean and hygienic.
  3. Understand the importance of keeping work areas clean and hygienic.
  4. Understand the importance of keeping food safe.
How is the course assessed?

Assessment is by a multiple choice test of 40 minutes duration. There will be 30 questions and a score of 20/30 must be achieved.
